The Rebel Pink tour is underway

The Rebel Pink leaves audiences ‘aching for more’.

After a successful tour of the South Island, where one reviewer was left ‘aching for more’, the next stop on the Footnote New Zealand Dance tour of The Rebel Pink is Palmerston North, where the company also hosts masterclasses open to the public.

Tauranga and Auckland audiences can also see more of the dancers off stage as they present a ‘Watch This Space’ free community performances in Tauranga Art Gallery and Auckland Art Gallery.

“Taking this show of three brand new works with its huge live music element on the road has been a total pleasure: audiences have even joined us on the hot pink dance floor after each show. For us, connecting with people all around New Zealand is the best thing we do each year. And with The Rebel Pink we are also performing in some unusual venues, sometimes outdoors and sometimes, and in the case in Tauranga, we perform for free so there are no excuses not to come along and enjoy the show.” Richard Aindow, General Manager.

The Rebel Pink is curated by well known NZ Choreographer Malia Johnston. With the title of the tour inspired by worldwide womens’ marches, The Rebel Pink aims to energetically engage audiences through fresh choreographic language from three emerging Kiwi choreographers.

“Making new work for a stage as a young choreographer is a vulnerable and nerve wracking experience.” Recalls curator Malia Johnston, “And so I am delighted to be able to support three choreographers as they make their first works on Footnote New Zealand Dance. The dancers are amping, they are 100% committed and excited to present these pieces to their audiences and to make their respective choreographers proud”

Described by one reviewer as ‘powerful energy’ and ‘beautiful’ The Rebel Pink continues its tour north to 4 more centres: Palmerston North, New Plymouth, Tauranga & Auckland.
