Professional development for freelance dancers

Choreolab 2023

Choreolab

Running since 2002, Footnote New Zealand Dance Choreolab is firmly established as the most significant professional development event for dance practitioners in New Zealand, drawing around fifty artists from around the country and overseas to Wellington each summer.

This two-week event provides a much-anticipated opportunity for artists across the country to spend time in the capital challenging their practice and learning from experienced international and New Zealand tutors; this is the only event of its kind in Aotearoa.

Choreolab 2025 dates

Choreolab will be back from 6-17 January 2025.

Opportunities for tertiary students

Secondments

Once a year we open up applications from third year tertiary students to join us for our secondment programme.

Our secondments provide an opportunity for final year tertiary dance students to join our company members for one week, either during a choreographic development process for one of our performance seasons, or during our Dance in Education programme where company members lead workshops in schools.

Masterclasses

Led by our professional dancers, a Footnote masterclass includes learning technique, repertoire and exploring choreographic tasks. Often masterclasses relate to current touring repertoire and include opportunities to attend the performance at reduced cost.
