Submit your proposal for Footnote’s 2020 Season
Footnote New Zealand Dance creates an environment that offers opportunities for New Zealand choreographers based in Aotearoa or overseas to make and present their work to nationwide audiences. To support this mission, and to encourage practitioners to engage with the company in Wellington, the company’s choreographic projects are selected by the Artistic Advisory Panel (Chris Jannides, Sean Macdonald and Claire O’Neil), General Manager (Richard Aindow) and Artistic Liaison (Anita Hunziker).
We invite proposals for the following season in 2020: The Movement (working title)
Following the successes of 2017 season The Rebel Pink and 2018 season Search Engine Footnote is again committing to extensive touring of new choreography around the country in 2020. This new triple bill season of dance will commission three choreographers from Aotearoa to make new works, irrespective of their experience in the industry.
This is an opportunity for New Zealand choreographers to develop a new 15-20 minute work on our company of five dancers. Drawing inspiration from the power of the arts to start and amplify conversations and provoke change, submissions for The Movement (working title) should be focussed on any issue that moves those proposing them: this could be environmental, political, societal, cultural, demographic or anything else as long as it encourages debate and advocates for change. Following four week development periods between February and April 2020 and a subsequent production period, there will follow a 4 week national tour of this season in April and May 2020. Works selected will be toured in a variety of venues including theatres, halls and other community spaces.
This commission includes a choreographic fee, return flights to Wellington and assistance with accommodation (if required). The company encourages ongoing dialogue during the process and you will have in-studio support from members of the Artistic Advisory Panel and our Artistic Liaison. The choreographer is expected to return for final rehearsals and the premiere, but is not expected to tour with the season. Footnote New Zealand Dance welcomes proposals from New Zealand choreographers based in Aotearoa or overseas.
Proposals should be submitted by 5pm on Friday 27th September 2019 via our online form. Please click here to complete your submission. Results will be announced in November 2019. For questions or further information, please contact General Manager Richard Aindow on email richard@footnote.org.nz or call 021 844 210.
