Choreolab, ChoreoCo and our new Company members
It’s full-steam ahead here at Footnote HQ! 2017 is well underway and we have many exciting plans up our sleeve for the year ahead. As always, we’re kicking off the year with our annual three week intensive, Choreolab. Dancers from all over the country and overseas descended on Wellington’s Whitireia Performing Arts Centre last week to learn from sensational local and international tutors.
Amongst those dancers are Footnote’s brand-new company members. Yes that’s right, we have five new dancers for 2017 and we can’t wait to create some magic with them in the studio and share it around the country.
New Year New Team
A new year brings a brand new company to Footnote. We’re so pleased to be welcoming Adam Naughton, Anu Khapung, Georgia Beechey-Gradwell, Joshua Faleatua and Tyler Carney into the Tarrant Dance Studios on Cuba Street. They’re all starting the year off with Choreolab, the perfect way to get fired up for 2017. Keep an eye out for more information on these brilliant dancers as they settle into the Footnote whanau.
Choreolab 2017
Footnote’s annual three week intensive for dancers, Choreolab, is underway! The next few weeks will be an incredible development period for the participants, with inspirational tutors from New Zealand, Germany and Belgium including James O’Hara and Balazs Busa for repertoire, Alexa Wilson for creative practice, Ralf Jaroschinski and Kristian Larsen for improvisation and Lucy Marinkovich, Jeremy Beck, Manu Reynaud and Anita Hunziker for morning technique class.
On Wednesday 1st February, Footnote New Zealand Dance would like to invite you to our free Choreolab showing. Come along to gain an insight into the Choreolab environment and see excerpts from each workshop; repertoire, creative practice and improvisation.

The Dark Light
During Choreolab, six dancers will be given the opportunity to be a part of ChoreoCo, a three week development period with an established choreographer. This year, Berlin-based New Zealand artist Alexa Wilson returns to Footnote for the first time since 2014’s The Status of Being to develop a brand-new work The Dark Light with ChoreoCo.
The Dark Light will be performed at Wellington’s Circa Theatre as part of the Fringe Festival. This new dance work will present us with a unique world. With elements of Wilson’s well-known irreverent sense of humour and use of digital image, this show will be a sensory experience not to be missed.
A lost species tries to remember itself. An in-between place is translated to us on screen. A realisation, a flicker in the shadows.
