Applications now open for Choreolab 2017

Footnote New Zealand Dance Choreolab is firmly established as the most significant professional development event for dance practitioners in New Zealand, drawing artists from around the country and overseas to the capital for three weeks each summer.
For the first time, Choreolab 2017 will have a different focus each week.
Week 1 will focus on repertoire
Week 2 will focus on creative practice
Week 3 will focus on improvisation
With another big announcement coming soon, we are delighted to announce the tutors leading the creative practice and improvisation weeks. They are Alexa Wilson, Ralf Jaroschinski and Kristian Larsen.
Berlin-based New Zealand choreographer Alexa Wilson, who last worked with Footnote in creating the full length work The Status of Being in 2014, will be leading our creative practice week. A multi-talented artist who explores intersection between movement, digital content, political consciousness and humour, Alexa will also be leading ChoreoCo 2017 through the creation of a new work, The Dark Light, which will be performed in the New Zealand Fringe Festival at Circa Theatre in Wellington. ChoreoCo 2017 will provide full time four-week paid contracts between February 6th and March 5th for six dancers selected from Choreolab 2017 participants.
Also based in Germany, and returning to New Zealand for Choreolab 2017 following rave reviews this year, is contact improv maestro Ralf Jaroschinski. Choreolab 2016 participants reported that Ralf’s teaching is ‘amazing’ and ‘incredibly valuable’, and many dancers especially requested that he return in 2017. We are so pleased he is joining us in Wellington again.
Kristian Larsen is no stranger to Auckland practitioners, most recently for the Bangers ‘N’ Mash performance series. An experienced collaborator and improvisation tutor, Kristian is returning to work with Footnote for the first time since choreographing Race to the Bottom for Footnote’s Taster Series in 2013. His workshops may or may not include live music.
Spotlights continue to evolve as valuable communication tools for participants to interface with people holding significant roles in the arts industry: once again a range of speakers will join us to give their insights and expertise. There will also be more informal opportunities to share questions, experiences and challenges.
As always, Footnote will make evening lab time available for participants to explore their ideas, and a number of social and networking events, including the infamous Choreolab boat trip. There are a few new surprises in store, too.

Choreolab 2017 fees are:
$225 (Earlybird fee if paid by November 18th) or $275 (to be paid in full by December 16th). Please note that Choreolab 2016 was oversubscribed and Choreolab 2017 is also limited to just 45 places (not including Footnote’s dancers who will also participate).
