Anita Hunziker announced as new Artistic Director of Footnote NZ Dance
Tonight we are making the exciting announcement of the appointment of Anita Hunziker to the new role of Artistic Director of Footnote New Zealand Dance.
"It is an honour to step into the role of Artistic Director of Footnote New Zealand Dance, a company very close to my heart.
I want to acknowledge and thank all former Footnote Artistic Advisory Panel members. These artists have helped to guide and shape Footnote over the past ten years. The AAP served Footnote exceptionally well during a period of growth and change. I am proud of what we have achieved artistically as a company, and I am confident in the foundations laid as we embark on this exciting new path.
During my time with Footnote, I have been a Company Dancer, Artistic Liaison and then Artistic Manager. I have been privileged to work with some remarkable leaders who have been mentors, role models and friends. These connections and relationships are so valuable to me. I care deeply about this company and the people we work with, and our new Artistic Vision fills me with excitement and energy.
Footnote is known for its energy, drive and ability to connect with contemporary Aotearoa. I will continue this legacy and curate trailblazing art that is current and relevant. I want to carefully create environments for artists to grow and thrive. We will produce ambitious and compelling dance works that challenge yet do not exclude audiences.
My personal mission is to take care of our vibrant dance community while valuing innovation.
Along with my colleagues Zoë and Brynne, I am dedicated to advancing and uplifting contemporary dance in Aotearoa, connecting with communities and creating bold, inclusive arts experiences.
A special thanks and gratitude to our most recent AAP members, Lyne Pringle, Melanie Hamilton and Kelly Nash, who guided us through this transition.
I also want to express my love and thanks to our founder and patron, Deirdre Tarrant.
Below is a list of all the exceptional former AAP members.
Deirdre Tarrant, Malia Johnston, Raewyn Whyte, Ross McCormack, Chris Jannides, Sean MacDonald, Claire O’Neil, Victoria Columbus, Melanie Hamilton, Lyne Pringle, Kelly Nash.
Ngā mihi nui kia koutou katoa."
