Movement biography: Georgia Beechey-Gradwell
Welcome to the first in our new video series exploring the personal worlds’ of our company members. In the first of these ‘movement biographies’ we’d like to introduce you to Georgia Beechey-Gradwell. This wild-haired and warm-hearted dancer was born in her family home in Island Bay and began dancing at the Tarrant Dance Studios when she was just six years old. Georgia’s first dance memory is of her Dad spinning her around to the Beatles while she was wrapped up in her Mum’s orange silk scarf.

What do you do in your spare time outside of work?
I try to rest a lot because of my busy weeks! But I also love being out in nature so I try to get out of the city whenever I can. I’m reading a book called ‘An Elder’s Vision of a Sustainable Future’ by David Suzuki at the moment, which is really interesting.
What’s your favourite place outside of New Zealand?
I really love Granada in Spain. I had the BEST time there because of all the amazing people I met who were living such fascinating lives.
What songs do you currently have on repeat?
“The Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel and “Home Land and Sea” by Trinity Roots
What would your super-power be?
The first thing that comes to my mind is flying, but I feel like that’s such a selfish super-power! I guess I would really just love to have a power that would allow me to help people.
Can you tell us a piece advice you always try to follow?
I don’t have a specific quote, but I always think about the idea of giving as much of yourself to others as you possibly can, without compromising on your own health or sanity.
