2018 Movement Biography: Joshua Faleatua
Welcome to the fifth video in our Movement Biography series, where we explore the worlds of our company dancers. The final video in this series is with Joshua Faleatua, or Fale, as most people know him as. Fale grew up in South Auckland and fell in love with dance through break-dancing with his brothers at a young age. A multi-talented artist, Fale also films and creates stunning videos with his musician and dancer friends. For an insight into Fale’s creative mind, take a look at his video and read our quick interview with him below.
What is your first dance memory?
My first dance memory is performing at some random talent quest with my older brothers. I can’t remember a lot but I do remember the performance being just a whole bunch of breakdancing. We probably didn’t win, I would have remembered that part.
What songs do you have on repeat at the moment?
I currently have Love me Tender by Elvis Presley on repeat. Halfway through this year I made a playlist on Spotify called “Oldschool raspberry Jams” with a whole bunch of old songs from around the 50s to the 80s. It’s mostly Elvis.
What would you be doing if you weren’t a dancer?
I’m not completely sure what I would be doing if I wasn’t dancing. I would hope that it would involve the arts. I think it would most likely be either music or film. Or maybe just a Game Of Thrones conspiracy theorist.
What’s your favourite place outside of New Zealand?
I haven’t travelled a lot to be able to compare different places. But for now I would say that it’s either Switzerland or Samoa that is my favourite place outside of New Zealand.
What do you do in your spare time outside of work?
In my spare time I love to create content through filming and editing. I enjoy playing PlayStation, especially when all my friends and family are online. I really love sports but don’t get to play much anymore. I also enjoy travelling and seeing new places.
What would your super power be?
My super power would be teleportation.
