2018 Movement Biography: Anu Khapung
After a short break in programming, we present to you the fourth video in our Movement Biography series, where we explore the worlds of our company dancers. Anu Khapung grew up in Kathmandu, Nepal, before moving to New Zealand in her early-teens. She’s curious about everything and her creativity spills into all other aspects of her life: she’s also a skilled sewer and cook!
This stunning video was shot at Otari-Wilton’s bush in Wellington by Jeremy Brick. If you want to find out a little more about Anu, read below to read our quick-fire interview with her.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to go on bush walks but when I’m at home you’ll usually find me cooking or sewing my own clothes. In the weekends I try to find interesting things that are happening in town, I love learning about other people’s cultures so I’ll go to local events or festivals.
If you could have a super power what would it be?
I’d like to have the ability to breathe underwater, or maybe even breathe in space.
What kind of music do you currently have on repeat?
I’m enjoying listening to the live recordings on Youtube Colour at the moment and I’m also getting into some rap artists.
If you weren’t a dancer, what do you think you’d be doing?
Nursing or make-up artist or fashion designer or yoga instructor!
What’s your favourite place outside of New Zealand?
Switzerland, where we travelled with Footnote last year. I would also love to explore the Pacific Islands.
What’s your first ever dance memory?
When I was about 8 or 9, I watched a lot of Bollywood films. I used to dance alongside the videos and learn all the moves!
