Mass Solitude Resource

Footnote New Zealand Dance in partnership with DSANZ, is proud to present a teacher and student resource based on Mass Solitude, choreographed by Sarah Foster-Sproull, performed by Footnote New Zealand Dance and Guangdong Modern Dance Company.

Mass Solitude is a movement meditation on connection and isolation. This astounding 30min work showcases the technical mastery of detailed movement that is a signature of Chinese dance companies, with the power and physicality that New Zealand dancers are renowned for across the world.

This comprehensive resource contains:

  • Footage of the entire 30-minute dance

  • Interviews with the choreographer, sound designer and dancer

  • A 30-minute master class with dancer, Joshua Faleatua, where students can learn a 2-minute solo suitable for NCEA assessment

  • Background information about Footnote and how the dance was created

  • Easy-to-follow choreographic tasks used by the choreographer to create work

  • NCEA Assessment tasks and schedules for 1.1, 2.2, 3.3 and 3.6

  • A student workbook accompanied by thorough teacher notes to assist the teaching and learning of 2.7 (91211) Provide an interpretation of a dance performance with supporting evidence.
